Macoupin County Animal Control and the non-profit group Macoupin TAILS have released the plans for the new Macoupin County Animal Control and Adoption Center. The center will be a joint effort between the Macoupin County Board and the volunteer group formed to support Macoupin County Animal Control. Macoupin County Board Chairman Andrew Manar said, “The facility will more adequately fulfill the needs of the county. Our current facility isn’t large enough or equipped to handle the growing animal population in our county.” Macoupin County Animal Control Administrator Buzie Bertagnolli added that the current facility has only 14 dog kennels, but the new building will have 36 as well as a room for cats, an adoption room, a grooming room, a veterinary care room, a reception area and a garage for storage. The new facility will be located on IL Route 4 on the outskirts of Carlinville. “With the new shelter, Macoupin County Animal Control and Macoupin TAILS will go beyond the current status of a dog pound to a full-service adoption and care facility,” said Bertagnolli. The Macoupin TAILS group was formed to support Macoupin County Animal Control financially as well as through volunteers who will help with the adoption and education programs that are being planned, according to Bertagnolli. Anyone interested in joining the volunteer group should contact Bertagnolli at 217-854-4024. Donations for the new shelter can be sent to Macoupin County Animal Control P.O. Box 107, Carlinville, IL 62626. All donations are tax deductible.
